The first time we saw this RD 500 was on José Mota workshop in Lisbon, in the summer of 2004, it was love at first sight!
@ LACOMOTO, testing the different rear fenders from many public Superbikes like GSX-R's, CBR's, R's we finally decided to use the Yamaha R1 2005'.
This 500 V4 is really gorgeous isn't it? :)
Another perspectives of how should be the rear of our 500.
April 2005, Ricardo made the deal with the owner, our friend Mário Paes, who also has another RD 500 V4, we change our Suzuki RG 500 Gamma with this RD.
A mixture between the evolution and inovation of new times with the R1 fender and the front & lateral fenders from the ancient and mystical Yamaha YZR 500 1991'.
Detail photos about the Suzuki RGV 250 front end with Honda CBR 600 wheels and brake system, already with stainless steel.
Finally the RD 500 was ready, with the fenders already adapted, just waiting for being painted!
The 4 Jolly Moto exhausts for the 500 V4 stock engine, to give it a little more "soul" in high rpms, and more horsepower as well. ;)

Assembling the now polished stock swingarm and another components.

The main transformations will be the new cylinder diagrams by changing the port timings, angles and passages reshaped for higher gas flow. New combustion chamber volumes for 13.5:1 compression ratio. The new Mikuni TM 30mm with new gigleur kit without air filters, new variable ignition with LuFo's CDI unit.
It was time to do an exhaust treatment, because they were rusty.
The chassis will be also transformed to give more height to the rear. Photo of the cylinders without the cylinder heads.

The 4 Jolly Moto exhausts for the 500 V4 stock engine, will be transformed by LuFo by cuting 4 cm each in lenght for making the 500 engine reving till 12 300 rpm with 198º exhaust opening timing.
Again assembled, reving a little outside the workshop.
The exhausts were already transformed by LuFo with a new top silencers position, now more together with the legal plate between them.

With all fenders assembled, this is the final perspective of the RD 500 without the decoration.

Lateral perspectives.
On the left photo, the YPVS can be now manual controled by a mechanism which gives us the possibility to variate the maximum exhaust port opening from 190º to 210º!
Rear perspective.
After the engine tune by LuFo, the RD 500 V4 went to LACOMOTO, the most famous house in Portugal making fiber fenders for superbikes and sport bikes, they will be in charge of mouting the YZR 500 1991' front and lateral fenders and adapt a new rear fender!
